I tried the unit and when I played the transferred movie on Quick Time, it was full of artifacts and the sound was way out of sync from video. Basically, unusable and unacceptable results. I tried all the tricks and tips in the manual and on their website, but no avail.Do not recommend. Do not buy.
THIS DEVICE IS A HUNK-A-JUNK, GOOD LUCK GETTING SERVICE ON IT ALSO. THEY DON'T TAKE CALLS TIMELY AND WHEN THEY DO THEY HANG UP ON YOU WHEN THEY HAVE TO THINK ABOUT REFUNDING/REPLACING. VERY BAD COMPANY------PINNACLE/ADVID
It was determined that my new unit was defective, and I had to send it back for a replacement. The return shipping keeps adding to the cost, and I still don't have one that works. I spent several hours with Pinacle's online chat support, jumping through all the hoops they requested, including downloading and updating firmware. When I opened it and tried to use it, it would not power on correctly. This device should rate no higher than 0 stars. My recommendation: Avoid this thing like the plague. I don't think I will, as they seem to have no quality control, and poor support. Several days later, I got an email saying that this unit is defective as well, and I need to send it back.
I tried it using my dvd/vcr/tv tuner as an input, but they told me it had not been tested with combo players so they would not support that application. This one powered up ok, but would not recognize any video signal. I bought one of these new to digitize old camcorder movies to the computer. Also, there seems to be a limited range of products that this was tested with which Pinacle will support. The replacement came quickly enough, but was not a new unit, and had some scratches on it. I spent 2 hours on on line chat support before they had to 'check into it, and email me back.' They had me down load and upload new firmware, try several video sources, try several cables, and keep telling them what lights were on. So I would not be able to use it to record tv, or old video tapes. Quality control is poor or non existent, and customer service requires hours of jumping through hoops, and will cost you to send it back.
Very easy way to xfer my DVR to VLC on my computer plays perfectly, but.i just can't firgure out how to convert (burn)on to dvd disc. But other than that, it does what it is suppose to do. The picture quailty is ok but the sound (audio)is what i just cant burn on the dvd disc. Even on the Ipod. One less step in trying to convert w/out your computer. I do love this device.
Not a huge biggie though. then I recorded a TV show from my Dish Network Reciever right onto a flash drive. I transfered some old 8mm footage and couldn't believe how easy it is. I just downloaded a free video converter software. Quality pretty good. The only drawback is that windows movie maker or my other video editing software didn't recognize the MPG4 format. I'm recommending this to my friends and co-workers. I only paid 51.00 for new one on Amazon and now see they are more expensive so shop around.
